Roger Barfs All Over Himself In The Car

One day one summer we went over to Grandmama’s and spent the afternoon there.  It was a hot summer day and after some time in the pool and such we decided to head back home to the east side of town.

After so many years I do not remember if Roger felt bad while over there but on the way home he became decidedly ill.  He was in the back seat in the car seat and we could tell he was not feeling so good.

When we were driving on the now demolished I-30 Overhead on the south end of downtown Roger threw up.  He erupted a huge and long stream of white vomit all over himself, the car seat, and the upholstery in the back seat of the car.  He cried out of course in baby talk and I went ever faster to get him home.

One of the most vivid things I do recall was looking in my rear view mirror at him.  He was still strapped in the car seat but he had a look of abject agony on his face, a pathetic visage of hurt painted all over his body by the rather copious coating of barf.  He had some kind of cereal earlier and the half digested chunks of it covered his little overalls. A horrid stench of sour stomach juices wafted through the car as well.

Luckily we got home and got him out of the car and inside to be cleaned up.  After he was settled I went back out the driveway to clean up the Buick.  And that was a mess for sure.

I took the car seat out of the car and placed it on the driveway.  I literally had to get the garden hose and spray down the seat to get all of the regurgitated mess off of it.  And of course I had to clean the seat off too. So finally after some effort the seat and the car were both returned to normal.

Well that was not the last time he was sick in his life but that time unlike many others still sticks in my mind to this day.  Roger’s stomach problem caused a case of indigestion that in a way lingers on with me to this very day.  It is an ill in my mind for which there is no known cure.  And honestly I do not want relief from it. Forgetting that day would deprive us of something that we now all laugh about when we recall it.  So whatever made Roger frown in agony that day puts a smile on his face, and mine, to this day.
